Learn How to Cover Your Walls with Your Own Creations
Join Artist in Residence, and winner of the 2020 701 CCA Prize, Adrian Rhodes, for a workshop on making your own repeating pattern art work. Rhodes’ art, including that featured in the current 701 CCA exhibition coming from her recent residency experience, often displays her graphic creations in a way that creates interlocking repeat images, called tessellations, that form a wallpaper.
On Saturday, July 23, from 3:00 until 5:00 in the afternoon, workshop participants will discover the techniques of creating these repeating art works, and produce their own design suitable for turning into a unique wallpaper. Knowledge of drawing or printmaking is not needed. “If you can draw a flower or a heart, you will be fine,” said Rhodes. An experienced teacher, she is focused on getting participants to understand the fundamentals of the technique and then adjust them to their own interests, skill levels and design aesthetic.
All art materials will be provided by 701 CCA. Participants will leave 701 CCA with two of their designs as well as a run of paper with their interlocking design printed on it. In addition, a list of vendors selling the supplies necessary to make the designs into long runs of paper to adhere to walls and other surfaces will be provided.
To enroll contact [email protected], registration deadline is July 23.
Workshop fee of $58.00 covers all supplies, access to computer printers, and refreshments.
