A family that survived the Camp Fire is rebuilding their home, alongside Habitat for Humanity of Butte County, and is inviting the public to celebrate with them. Community members and families can sign the walls of the home mid-construction before sheetrock is installed during the family’s Wall Signing Event, 1 PM Nov. 14 at 5794 Deerpark Lane in Paradise.
Paint and pens are provided for participants to sign the walls with well-wishes and blessings for the family moving in. Children are welcome to add a painted handprint to the walls.
The new house is a part of a Habitat pilot program, titled Disaster Recovery Rebuild Program, that assists Camp Fire survivors in rebuilding their homes on properties they already own. Typically, families that partner with Habitat do not already own the lots where homes are being constructed.
The pilot program is funded thanks to $85,000 from the Camp Fire Collaborative’s Unmet Needs Roundtable, a $125,000 disaster resilience grant from Verizon, and a $2,500 grant from the Paradise Recreation and Park District through the California Volunteers Neighbor-to-Neighbor grant program.
