A walk looking at the archaeology and history of the remote Swanscombe Peninsula
About this Event

This is the seventh in a series of walks along the Thames from London to the sea.

Swanscombe Peninsula is just outside the M25 yet a very isolated place, home to many kinds of marshland birds. The whole area is due to be developed as a theme park in the near future, so this walk is a chance to look at the area in its current state, crossed by electricity pylons and fringed by industry. The walk will take in an important archaeological site - Swanscombe Heritage Park, Ingress Abbey, built in part from stone from the old London Bridge and Broadness Lighthouse.

The walk is around 5 miles in total and involves much uneven and possibly damp terrain, so walking boots are advised. .

There are few facilities in the area so bring hand sanitiser and face coverings. We will be practicing social distancing and the number of guests will be limited to 8.
