About this Event

THIS IS THE LAST DAY OF OUR SATURDAY WALKING TOURS FOR 2024! Thanks to everyone who have supported the educational mission of the museum this year by attending our walking tours or have told your colleagues, friends, and neighbors. If we miss you today, see you again in Spring 2025!

Put on your walking shoes and join us on a fascinating walkabout of one of Washington, DC’s oldest military facilities! Learn about the legacy of the Washington Navy Yard and its contributions to the United States and the historical fabric of the nation’s capital. Established in the 1790s, the Washington Navy Yard was an important shipping, manufacturing, and logistical base along the historic Anacostia River. The Washington Navy Yard has hosted presidents, royalty, and other significant historical figures and has employed thousands of civilians and military personnel. Their stories, along with references to interesting historical artifacts, buildings, and homes associated with the Navy Yard, including the current National Museum of the United States Navy, will be shared during this picturesque walk of the Yard.

Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. Head coverings, sunscreen, and sunglasses can be helpful during the summer months. Please also consider bringing bottled water.

Parking: There is no parking at Washington Navy Yard; however, paid and free parking is located in various areas surrounding the yard.

Note: You can sign up for a morning tour at 10:30am, or an afternoon tour at 1:30pm. Meet your NMUSN tour guide on foot at the 11th and O St. SE gate at 10am for the morning tour, and 1pm for the afternoon tour. Please be prompt.
