About this Event
Kick off LGBT History Month with a walking tour of Chelsea! We’ll explore the evolution of Eighth Avenue as a popular destination for gay nightlife in the 1980s and 1990s, stop at former residences of a diverse group of influential artists and activists, and look at the impact of the AIDS crisis on the neighborhood. Highlights also include the home and medical office of a pioneering transgender psychiatrist and a former firehouse that served as a vital incubator space for lesbian rights organizations in the post-Stonewall era.
This walking tour will last approximately 1 ½ hours. Meet in front of the Hotel Chelsea, 222 West 23rd Street. The tour will take place rain or shine.
