A walk along the route of what was until 1998 the Addiscombe Line, which was closed to make way for part f the Croydon TramlinkThe Addiscombe Branch Line operated from 1885 to 1998, part of the railway lines built by competing railway companies hoping to make the most of the growing passenger traffic from suburban South London. However the Croydon Tramlink project meant the closure of part of the line to become Addiscombe Railway park.
This walk will follow the route of the line, starting at Sandilands Tramlink stop and first taking in the site of the East India Company's training academy. After that we will visit the sad remains of Addiscombe station before walking to Blackhorse Lane where the Tramlink line joins.
From there we will pass the site of Croydon's controversial racecourse, served by a station at Woodside. The last part of the walk takes in South Norwood Country Park, once home to a medieval moated manor house.
There will be tales from the railway along the way - the walk ends at Elmers End station.
The walk is about 3 miles in total.
