A walk along the route of the Inner Circle rail line, through Fitzroy Nth, Carlton Nth, and Parkville, ending at Flemington Bridge station on the Upfield line. It's about 5 km, easily achievable for any passably active person.
Get a train (or a bus) to Rushall Station on the Mernda Line, don't drive because (a) you'll never find a spot to park in North Fitzroy, and (b) you'll end up 5 km from your car with no easy way back other than doing the same walk in reverse.
We'll end at Flemington Bridge Station on the Upfield Line, which will take you to the City Loop via North Melbourne, or you can catch the 59 tram to Moonee Ponds junction or Essendon Station, both of which have plenty of bus routes, many of which run on Sundays.
It's entirely possible that we'll end up at a pub somewhere for a refreshing ale, too.
