Join us in the Great Hall for a Fall Theology Lecture with The Rev. Canon Dr. Victor Lee Austin! Twice now Father Austin has walked from Roncesvalles in Spain, a village just over the Pyrenees from France, to Santiago de Compostela in northwest Spain. This route is a thousand years old, and millions of pilgrims have walked it, including today some hundreds of thousands every year. In this year’s theology lecture he will address two basic questions about the Camino. First, how does a person make this walk? What are the practicalities? How does one prepare physically? What sort of spiritual preparation is helpful? Second, why would you want to walk to a place which is claimed to be the burial place of a saint? Isn’t God everywhere? What is the theological meaning of special places, and how is that connected to our being animals that walk?
At the conclusion of Father Austin’s lecture, Bishop George Sumner will offer a response. Then there will be time for Q&A and, at the end, a wine and cheese reception.
