Walking Forward Together: Day of LearningAs part of our commitment to Indigenous Education, the Abbotsford School District acknowledges historic and ongoing injustices that Indigenous People endure in Canada, and we accept responsibility as a public educational institution to contribute towards revealing and correcting miseducation as well as renewing respectful relationships with Indigenous communities through our teaching and community engagement. 3 Crows Production
3 Crows Productions is a unique group of Indigenous educational storytellers dedicated to promoting anti-racism, create awareness of the intergenerational impact of Indian Residential Schools and help youth strengthen mental health. Each member is dedicated to the purpose of educating the future generations of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth through presentations, oral storytelling, live theatre performances and short film productions.
Dr. Gwendolyn Point
Shoysqwelwhet (Dr. Gwendolyn Point) is from the Stó:lō Nation. She is a distinguished educator, scholar, mentor, visionary and leader. Dr. Point is a Knowledge Keeper and Cultural Advisor for Abbotsford School District. At various points in her career, Shoysqwelwhet has taught at the elementary, secondary, and post-secondary levels, and held positions in leadership and administration with the Stó:lō Nation and the provincial government. Join Dr. Gwendolyn Point as she discusses the challenges and possibilities of Indigenous Education in our schools.
Kevin Lamoureux
Kevin Lamoureux is a faculty member at the University of Winnipeg and a well-known public speaker. He has served as Education Lead for the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation, Associate Vice President for the University of Winnipeg, and as Scholar in Residence for several school divisions. He is an award-winning scholar with an impressive publication and research grant record, and has consulted for governments, organizations, and institutions across Canada. His most recent book contribution, Ensouling Our Schools with Dr. Jennifer Katz, is being used by educators across Canada working to create inclusive spaces for all students. Kevin Lamoureux is committed to reconciliation and contributing to an even better Canada for all children to grow up in.
Jo Chrona
Jo Chrona is an education consultant, speaker, and author, supporting professional learning opportunities in the areas of Indigenous education and anti-racism. Her experience includes teaching in both K-12 and post-secondary education, working as a Faculty Associate in SFU’s Teacher Education Program, an Advisor with the BC Ministry of Education, and a Policy Analyst then Curriculum Manager, for the First Nations Education Steering Committee in British Columbia.
