About this Event

Sustainability is happening all around Dane County! The All Around Dane County program is a community-driven initiative aiming to bring together people interested in sustainability, learn from local initiatives, and share ideas with one another. New this year, we are adding walking programs to connect with each other in the outdoors.

Sustain Dane will host a gathering on Friday, February 21 from 3:30—4:30 PM, meeting at UW Arboretum's Visitor Center. Come to connect with other sustainability enthusiasts and learn about local initiatives at the Arboretum.

A portion of the event will be held outdoors walking on the trails. Please wear weather appropriate clothing and shoes. We will send out a cancellation 48 hours in advance if there's inclement weather.

Patrick Bohlen, Director, UW-Madison Arboretum

Patrick Bohlen, previously professor of biology at the University of Central Florida (UCF), has been selected as the new director of the UW Arboretum. From 2010–2022, Bohlen was director of Landscape and Natural Resources and Arboretum at UCF. As director, he oversaw landscape design and operations, natural lands management, and student and public engagement with the campuses nature-based programs. Bohlen’s research interests have spanned ecosystem ecology, agroecology, urban ecology, and wetland ecology. His current research focuses on the ecology and conservation of pollinators and other insects in urban ecosystems. Earlier in his career, he studied the effects of earthworms on nutrient cycling in a variety of ecosystems. His post-doctoral research was focused on soil processes and plant-soil feedbacks in northern hardwood forests.
