The WordPlayers is ecstatic to produce Walking Across Egypt, adapted for the stage by Catherine Bush from the novel by Clyde Edgerton. Shows are September 25 & 26 and October 2 & 3 at 7:30pm, and September 28 and October 5 at 2:30pm at Erin Presbyterian Church, 200 Lockett Rd., Knoxville, TN.
Upon discovering a stray dog on her back porch, Mattie Rigsbee decides she's too old to keep a pet and calls the dogcatcher. Little does she know that the dogcatcher, Lamar Benfield, will open her eyes to a whole world she never knew existed, a world that includes car theft, prison breaks, and a juvenile delinquent named Wesley who is as desperate for a family as she is. Armed with only her mouthwatering cornbread and a deep abiding faith in the Almighty, Mattie is determined to woo Wesley to the side of God and good Southern manners … if she can just manage to stay out of jail herself.
Directed by Sheri Lynn Younkin, and starring Lisa Slagle as Mattie, the cast features Patrick Minton, Griffon Gilbert, Christi Watson, Gabe Potter, Aaron Hinds, John Cherry, Jae Campbell, Red Paint Spilman, Ernie Roberts, Gregory Power, Alyse Troutt, Maddie Gravitte, Cooper Fuson, Kim Chaney-Bay, and Wendy Potter.
Tickets are $22 for adults, $18 for students, and can be purchased online at wordplayers.org/buy-tickets/ or at the door. Thursday shows are pay-what-you-wish admission. All shows are at Erin Presbyterian Church, 200 Lockett Rd, Knoxville, TN.
