Ed Harris stars as a larger-than-life real-life figure, the 19th century adventurer William Walker, who was determined to bring American values to the rest of the world - even if it killed them.
Retelling Walker's illegal invasion of Nicaragua, WALKER is an incendiary and iconoclastic mash-up of period biopic and punk rock satire, inspired by spaghetti westerns and the delirious violence of Akira Kurosawa and Sam Peckinpah. Harris delivers an astonishing central performance, his icy demeanour somehow scarier and madder than the madness around him.
Writer and director Alex Cox went from Liverpool to Hollywood to make cult classics REPO MAN and SID AND NANCY, but after the delirious WALKER he never worked in Hollywood again. Cox and his ragtag crew of misfits and punk rockers actually went to war-torn 1980s Nicaragua to make a movie that savagely draws parallels between history and today.
Join us at Heene Rooms for this unmissable screening:
💥 An incendiary take on the historical genre from a supremely iconoclastic director
💥 A soundtrack from the legendary Joe Strummer
💥 Western-inspired action meets cutting 1980s satire
★★★★★ "A vicious and razor-toothed portrayal of a real-life figure who is equal parts Colonel Kurtz and Darth Vader" Adam Grinwald, Collider
★★★★★ "Excessive or not, the exhilaration and lyricism of its furious anger and wit are such that they could enlighten us all" Jonathan Rosenbaum, Chicago Reader
★★★★★ "A tightly paced, intuitive biopic, tonally reminiscent of 'Barry Lyndon' with a brilliant performance by Ed Harris. A true love-it-or-hate-it punk cinema extravaganza" Peter Canavese, Celluloid Dreams
