A walk complementing the Cato Street exhibition: discover the circumstances prompting the conspiracy.
About this Event

On 1 May, 1820, five men were publicly executed outside Newgate Pr*son for conspiring to destroy Lord Liverpool’s Government and to establish a radical parliament. Despite a powerful speech and moving song – ‘Death and Liberty’ – by two of the men, the crowd remained strangely silent and the men went to their deaths. Called ‘The West End Job’ by the conspirators, the plot became known as The Cato Street Conspiracy.

Who were these desperate men? Why did they do as they did?

Join qualified Westminster Guides, Rosemary Barnes and Pernille Ahlström, to follow in these men’s footsteps through Marylebone to Cato Street itself. In a walk complementing the exhibition at the Guildhall Library, discover the circumstances prompting the conspiracy, the events of the fateful night of 23 February 1820 and what happened next.

Meet at Marylebone Library, 9-11 New Cavendish Street W1G 9UQ.
