This River City Waterway Alliance Walk & Cleanup will be co-hosted by Wayne Watts, a long time American River Parkway hero. In fact, Wayne has received a Certificate of Recognition from Assemblymember Kevin McCarty's office for his amazing 38+ years of dedicated stewardship to the parkway. Over the past year, Sacramento County Regional Parks has enforced the No Camping laws in Wayne's 3-mile adopted stretch along the American River. As a result, no group cleanups have been required in many months. But because we love Wayne and he loves us, he has invited us to join him for a Nature Walk and Maintenance Mode pickup. He will share stories about his long battle to save and protect this beautiful riparian habitat while we stroll through the Parkway enjoying majestic river views.
We will be meeting at the end of Ethan Way near the RV Park behind Cal Expo Gate 12 at the end of Ethan Way, then hike to the riverfront.
This will be a fairly relaxed event with lots of walking. RCWA will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves - a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available.
AGE LIMIT: This event is not suitable for minors under 12 years old. Minors 12 and older are invited, but must be supervised by a responsible adult during the entire event.
As with all events shared on RCWA, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.
Overall, be safe, have fun and get some “Exercise with a Purpose”!
Thank you!💚
