To honor the Walk for Peace by the Venerable Buddhist Monks and their loyal companion, Aloka the Peace Dog, who will arrive in Washington, DC, around the dates of February 11-13, 2026, we are hosting a mindful Walk for Peace to spread loving kindness in our community. The venerable monks are walking for 120 days and 2,300 miles from Texas to Washington, DC, touching hearts and inspiring peace, loving kindness, and compassion throughout our nation and the world.
We will begin at the Mandala at the new RiversEdge Park on the South Bank (near Duval County School Bldg.), loop around Friendship Fountain, cross the Main Street Bridge, and gather in downtown Jacksonville at the new Riverfront Plaza (formerly The Landing).
We will begin with a welcome to all, a breathing exercise, and a loving kindness meditation, and will finish with a gathering in the park.
The purpose of the walk is to spread loving kindness to all. We will walk quietly, mindfully, and peacefully. If you wish to bring a sign or posters, the only types allowed are those that say, "This is my peaceful day," and similar sentiments.
NO PROTEST SIGNS, SLOGANS, OR CHANTS! This is about bringing our community together through compassion and kindness.
NO VENDORS OR SELLING! This is about honoring the monks through acts of kindness and giving.
To donate to support the monks' journey, see pinned post.
