On this walk you'll learn about the Empire Theatre, Theatre Royal, the Great Fires of Chatham, Sun Pier and the river industries of Chatham Intra.
Meet outside Anchorage House ME4 4DW (next to Jade Garden, opposite Poco Loco).
These walks have been developed for the Old High Street Intra Heritage Open Days Trail / Festival of Chatham Reach by Robert Flood, local historian, Chair of the City of Rochester Society and Vice-Chair of the Friends of Medway Archives.

Heritage Open Days - 10 - 18 September 2022
Sun Pier House, in partnership with Historic England and Medway Council’s ‘High Street Heritage Action Zone’ project, have created the Old High Street Intra Heritage Open Days Trail to promote the events and ‘hidden histories’ you can discover this September across Chatham Intra, as part of the national Heritage Open Days 2022.

About the High Street Heritage Action Zone Programme
Historic England and Medway Council are working with local people and partners through grant funding to help breathe new life into high streets that are rich in heritage.
The High Streets Heritage Action Zones scheme, backed by government funding, aims to help with the recovery of local high streets, from regenerating historic buildings to helping to engage local communities through art and cultural projects.
The Sun Pier to Star Hill conservation area has been awarded £1.6m funding from Historic England, towards a programme from 2021 to 2024, with the aim to bring the history and heritage of the area back to life and boost the local economy.
