Join our poetry walk to celebrate the work of Cynthia Kenny! Get creative and discover a new side to Wakefield in this welcoming poetry workshop and walk.
Join Wakefield Museum and Lindsey Marie from Black Horse Poets Society for a poetry walk around Westgate inspired by Cynthia Kenny - a City Framed.
We’ll start at the museum with a brief introduction, before heading out on a walk around some of the places featured in the exhibition. At each stop you’ll be given creative prompts and encouragement to develop your own poetry and ideas. The walk will end back at Wakefield Museum where you’ll have the chance to share what you have written or listen to other people’s work.
If you’ve ever wanted to get creative with words, but not sure where to start, then this could be the workshop for you!
Suitable for adults 16+
Free, booking required at: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/wakefield-museums-castles/e-ryvyeb
Accessibility:
The walk will take place in a small loop around the Westgate area of Wakefield. Most of the route is level and we will be following pavements. Please be aware that the pavement can be narrow and uneven in some places. There is no seating available on this walk. The walk will take place outside so please be prepared and dress for the weather and bring any water or food you need.
Black Horse Poets: Founded in 1998, the Black Horse Poets are a staple of the creative community in Wakefield, with a variety of creative writers on all levels. They meet twice a month at the Red Shed in Wakefield for both Poetry and Prose meetings and always welcome new members. Please visit their Facebook page for further information or contact Secretary Colin Hollis at [email protected].
Lindsey Marie: Lindsey is a fiction novelist, poet, and sketch artist. She has had work published in poetry anthologies, magazines and online and published one novel, Blackwood. Her most recent project, 'The Errs That Bind Us' is a poetry and sketch work collection, recently displayed at the Wakefield Mental Health Museum and now available on her website. You can also check out some of her work with the Wakefield Libraries and Museums, and Poetry for Mental Health anthologies. Visit lmariewrites.weebly.com.
This workshop is part of the public programme for Wakefield Museum’s latest Special Exhibition, Cynthia Kenny: A City Framed. Cynthia Kenny (1929 – 2021) captured the changing landscape of Wakefield with her paintbrush and pen. Spend some time in Cynthia’s Wakefield to admire iconic views and discover hidden gems.
