Sue Jones and John Nielson - Sue played fiddle in ceilidh bands, and then discovered French music; she also writes fabulous tunes. John’s collaborations on accordion have included Francisco the Man, Bosco and the trio Half Six.
The Waite Collective - Mother Mal and daughters Rebecca and Katrina have been singing as The Waite Collective for more than twenty years. Dance to their engaging chansons pour les pieds!
Balfolk is a tradition of live music and social folk dancing from across Europe, particularly France. It's an inclusive, social event for people of all ages and experience levels. The focus is on community and having fun. Everyone’s happy to show you the steps, and it’s easy to pick up, so you’ll be able to join in straight away. Balfolk includes both traditional and newly developed dances. Dances include circle dances like the Chapeloise, partnered dances such as the Schottish and Mazurka, and line dances like those from Brittany. You don’t need to bring a partner as you’ll likely dance with several different people.
Free on-site parking. Fully accessible venue. Please note that dogs are NOT permitted inside the venue. There is no bar, so bring your own drinks, although there will be tea and coffee making facilities. Of course, it wouldn't be a Waite Collective event without cake!!!
If you’re interested in coming to one of our events, we’d be grateful if you would book tickets in advance – so we know how much cake to buy and don’t need to take money on the day. Ticket numbers are limited. Online ticket sales will be closed on the day of the event. Providing we have not sold out, tickets will be available on the door - first come first served.
