Artist Christian Noelle Charles presents WAIT A MINUTE?!! at Glasgow Print Studio from 04 April - 31 May 2025Preview: Thursday 03 April, 6-8pm
This solo exhibition from Glasgow based, New York born artist Christian Noelle Charles explores the tension between isolation and solitude, questioning how these experiences shape the layered understanding of being a Black Woman in today’s world. In a time of instant communication and digital immediacy, solitude can feel both like a refuge and a confrontation—a space to process, unravel, and rebuild.
Through a collection of self-portraiture expanded over the last two years, this body of work navigates themes of validation, intimacy, and acceptance. The self-portraits document the shifting relationship with the self, examining how solitude allows for both self-affirmation and self-interrogation. The exhibition space is designed to reflect this internal dialogue, inviting viewers to move through layered prints, fragmented compositions, and objects that blur the line between private reflection and public display.
Christian Noelle Charles is a visual artist whose work explores identity, self-love, and community within the Black diaspora. Born in Syracuse, New York (1993), and based between New York and Glasgow, Scotland, she holds an MFA from The Glasgow School of Art and a BFA from The Cooper Union in New York.
Her interdisciplinary practice spans screenprinting, video, and performance, blending Afro-diasporic music, dance, and rhythms to create immersive, multisensory experiences. Central to her work is the concept of deep self-reflection, encouraging audiences to confront personal and collective understandings of identity. Focused on themes of Black joy, resilience, and authenticity, her work challenges dominant narratives and celebrates the richness of Black identities.
