Érzékiség és aszkézis között vergődik Wagner középkori mondahős életét feldolgozó korai operája, a Tannhäuser címszereplője. Az alkotás problémavilága persze nagyon is aktuális volt a 19. században, a romantika korában, amikor a polgári társadalom sok olyan elv ellen lázadt fel, amelyet a korábbi történelmi korszakok szentként tiszteltek. A művet színpadra állító előadás a Budapesti Wagner-napok régi sikere. A főbb szerepekben olyan művészek lépnek a Müpa közönsége elé, mint a Tannhäusert alakító Marco Jentzsch, Erzsébet megformálójaként Elisabet Strid, Hermann őrgróf szerepében Bretz Gábor, Vénuszként Láng Dorottya, illetve Wolfram von Eschenbachként Lauri Vasar. A produkció karmestere a Wagner műveit gyakran vezénylő, Európa legnevesebb dalszínházaiban otthonosan mozgó Michael Güttler.//
The life of the title character of Wagner’s early opera Tannhäuser, based on the hero of medieval legend, is a struggle between sensuality and asceticism. Of course, the various problems presented in the work were highly relevant in the 19th century, the age of Romanticism, a time when bourgeois society was at odds with many of the principles held sacrosanct in previous historical eras. This staging of the opera has long been a successful component of the Budapest Wagner Days festival. Taking on the principle roles before the Müpa Budapest audience will be such artists as Marco Jentzsch as Tannhäuser, Elisabet Strid as Elisabeth, Gábor Bretz as Hermann, Dorottya Láng as Venus, and Lauri Vasar as Wolfram von Eschenbach. Occupying the podium for this production is Michael Güttler, who regularly conducts Wagner works and is at home in Europe’s most prestigious opera houses.
