VYNYL makes music for the underdogs. The chameleonic pop-rock band knows more than most what it means to rise to the occasion when the odds are stacked against them. Coming from homelessness and seeking a larger purpose in North Carolina, lead singer John Tyler alongside Andrew Cole, originally hailing from South Africa, founded VYNYL in 2015 as a means to escape their circumstances.
The two eventually packed up and moved to Denver, Colorado where they met guitarist, Hunter Heurich. In time, their complementary talents garnered a strong bond that has brought them acclaim and led them to share stages with the likes of 3Oh!3, Neon Dreams, Breathe Carolina, Blink-182 and more.
Their first EP, Pink, arrived in October 2019, after a slew of successful singles that racked up tens of thousands of streams. The EP brought the band’s first tour after a breakthrough opening performance at Denver’s premier Mission Ballroom and winning 93.3’s Hometown for the Holidays. Unfortunately, the tour was cut short due to COVID-19. With the pandemic, a cascade of life changes hit the band — threatening to derail the momentum that got them where they were. Instead of crumbling, the band leaned into their tribulations and reinvented themselves.
2021’s The World Is on Fire and I’m Lonely is a testament to their efforts. Arriving April 2021, the hard-hitting blitz of a record is emblematic of the underdogs coming out on top to deliver their most sonically ambitious effort to date. Angsty and emphatically representative of our times, The World Is on Fire and I’m Lonely marks a new era for the band. With all the rules thrown out the window, VYNYL are charging into 2021 with a vengeance, turning their tragedies into triumphs.
