In the summer of 1706, the 21-year-old Georg Friedrich Händel journeyed to Italy to immerse himself in the flourishing Italian style that was captivating Europe. During this period, the ambitious composer produced a remarkable number of psalms, cantatas and religious motets. In this concert, Vox Luminis, along with soprano Perrine Devillers and Anthony Romaniuk, will perform the works Händel composed for the Catholic church Santa Maria in Montesanto for a patronal feast. We retrace the steps of the young Händel, who considered his trip to Rome as his first step towards the conquest of Italy and of opera, his ultimate genre.__________________________________________
