About this Event
September 4th Volunteer Workday - San Pablo Bay NWR
Come join us for an important and rewarding volunteer workday at San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refuge! Help maintain and improve this vital habitat while enjoying the fresh air and stunning views. No experience is necessary - just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to lend a hand. Don't forget to check the weather forecast and dress accordingly.
The September workday event will focus on weeding at our Dickson Unit. Volunteers will work with refuge staff to control top priority invasive species. All tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) needed by volunteers to conduct activities in this plan will be provided by Refuge staff. They include (but are not limited to):
- Shovels
- Loppers
- Hand tools for weeding
- Bags for disposal of weeds/trash.
Volunteers are strongly encouraged to bring their own water, lunch/snacks, hat, gloves, sunscreen, sunglasses, and mosquito/tick repellant. Since work will occur outdoors and is physical in nature, volunteers should take breaks as needed.
Volunteers will also have the option to work in the San Pablo Bay NWR Native Plant Nursery. These volunteers will work with staff from Point Blue Conservation Science’s STRAW (Students & Teachers Restoring A Watershed) Program in efforts to grow, cultivate and maintain native plants for habitat restoration throughout Marin and Sonoma Counties. Activities include (but are not limited to):
- Potting up seedlings
- Washing pots
- Plant care and maintenance
- Invasive plant management, sizing plants up, weeding, fertilizing
Meet at the at 10:00 AM.
