About this Event
Join the Siuslaw Watershed Council and Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians to remove one of Western Oregon's most widespread and pernicious weeds from an ongoing restoration site just outside of Florence. Gloves and snacks will be provided! Knee pads or foam gardening mats are recommended for those who have them.
Scotch Broom (Cytisus scoparius) was historically widely planted by European colonists for dune stabalization and roadside ornamentation, and today plagues the western portion of the state due to its difficulty to remove, rapid reproduciton, and ability to outcompete native species. At this event, we have the opportunity to remove the plants while they are small and can still be pulled by hand.
The event will take place on the Qa'iach restoration site, accessable via the first gravel pull-out to the left on North Fork road driving North from Florence. (Map in event photos)
