Meet and mingle with our stellar group of volunteer educators and enjoy light refreshments as you learn about volunteer opportunities at the Museum and Sea Center. We can’t wait for you to join our fun and supportive community of nature- and science-lovers! All adults age 18 and up are welcome. No prior experience is necessary; bilingual English/Spanish skills are a big plus in serving diverse audiences of students.
Becoming a volunteer educator will truly enhance your life. Take it from Educator Dave E. (in the program since 2021): “I enjoy the fellow volunteers, I learn so much, and I like the challenge of communicating to students in a manner that intrigues them. When a student delights in the recognition of a new insight and desires for more, it makes my day. The training I receive from Museum staff and visiting university professors is extraordinary for it expands my appreciation of the natural world, both past and present. I would like to think that I am giving back to the community but in reality I think I am benefiting the most.”

About the Program
Volunteer Museum educators lead schoolchildren in programs designed by Museum staff to nurture children’s natural curiosity and feed their excitement about science. Museum staff offer in-depth training and all the support and flexibility you need to succeed. In addition to learning from in-depth trainings—drawing from experts in the field on a wide array of topics—volunteers enjoy learning from each other across their varied backgrounds. New Museum educators commit to attending training classes on Tuesdays 10:00–11:30 AM, plus one additional weekday morning to shadow experienced educators or lead tours when ready.
