Join Wind Wolves Staff as we plant Bakersfield cactus pads! This endemic and endangered species can only be found in Kern County and this is a special opportunity to lend a hand in growing our populations here at Wind Wolves!
Reservations required.
Check in at the Administrative Center by 8:45 am. NO LATE ARRIVALS OR EARLY DEPARTURES.
Recommended for ages 10 and up. Space is limited. Minors (under the age of 18) must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. All participants will be required to sign waivers during check-in.
Please note this event is subject to cancellation due to excessive heat warnings or other hazardous conditions.
Suggested Items to Bring
- weather appropriate clothing (check the weather)
- Pants and long-sleeve shirts (protect yourself from ticks & glochids)
- closed-toe shoes (ankle length hiking boots recommended)
- Gaiters (protect yourself from foxtails & other dry grasses)
- sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses)
- gardening gloves (limited supply available)
- water/electrolytes
- snacks
SAFETY
• Remember to bring enough water and snacks for each person and pet in your group (it is recommended you bring 1 liter for every 2 hours of hiking/ person).
• Water bottle refill stations are located at The Crossing and The Willows restroom (depending on your program, you may encounter 1 or both of these restrooms).
• Access to shade will be available (depending on trail/ program) and short breaks will be provided.
• Recognize the symptoms of heat illness in yourself and others.

Wind Wolves Preserve is a 93,000-acre nature preserve located approximately 30 miles south of Bakersfield, and is owned and operated by The Wildlands Conservancy. The Preserve is open to the public daily and visitors can enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, camping, or attend a staff led program, all free of charge.
The Wildlands Conservancy is a private, non-profit organization that owns and stewards more than 25 preserves along the west coast.
