About this Event
Volunteer Day at The Heron’s Nest | Malama Turtle Island Volunteer Week
We’re gathering in support of ongoing rematriation/land back efforts connected to the Duwamish Tribe—tending to place, learning together, and contributing care that directly supports restoration and community use of this site.
What We'll Do
Hands-on care before the rains—a labor of love to give shape to the land:
- Warm-up: harvest & package seeds from seasons harvest.
- Restore the trail connecting the Duwamish Longhouse ↔︎ Heron’s Nest (accessibility focus).
- Repair washed-out steps; stabilize steep sections—slow, mindful work.
Mālama Turtle Island Volunteer Week is Hawaiian Diaspora’s call to action for Hawaiians in the diaspora (and allies) to deepen our relationships where we live. Hawaiian Diaspora is a grassroots movement supporting Hawaiians living outside of Hawai’i to empower Hawaiian identity, honor kuleana, and strengthen roots.
