About this Event
The Church Security Team Instructor Development course is designed for students who desire to form an armed House of Worship security team, are already on a security team that has never been professionally trained, or are interested in teaching church security team classes. Topics covered in this twenty-hour course include, but are not limited to, the following:
-Use of Force Laws
-Mitigating risks regarding Assault by Contact, Unlawful Arrest, and Detention
-Development of a House of Worship Security Plan and Security Team Operating Order
-Site evaluation and tactical positioning of security team members outside and inside of the House of Worship walls (students will participate in an exercise in which they are assigned to a team and provided with a mock floorplan and must develop and deliver a presentation for the rest of the class on how they would secure the structure and position the team before, during, between, and after the services)
-Team communications
-Video Surveillance
-Security concerns in the Children’s Area
-Training staff, greeters, ushers, and parking lot assistants to function as additional eyes and ears
-Identifying, interacting with, and managing suspicious visitors or known persons with questionable intent and procedures for maintaining close supervision of persons who are security concerns
-House of Worship specific live-fire exercises covering but not limited to, the following:
- Firearms safety
- Situationally based ready positions
- Recommended shooting drills
- Contact distance, near-contact distance, and close distance shooting
- Precision shooting in crowded areas
- Armed movement through crowds
- Use of cover where available
- One and two-man room clearing fundamentals
- Church Security Team Instructor Qualification Test (limited to two attempts)
- Active Shooter response
-Surgical application of OC (pepper spray)
-Immediate action responses to perceived less lethal assaults and edged weapon attacks
-Immediate medical treatment of gunshot and edged weapon wounds
-Site evaluation and tactical positioning of security team members outside and inside of the House of Worship walls (students will break into teams and given a mock floorplan. They will have two hours to develop and then deliver a presentation for the rest of the class on how they would secure the structure and position the team before, during, between, and after the services)

Required Equipment: Notepad, pen, cover garment similar to what might be worn while working on a church security team, service handgun with concealment holster and two spare magazine pouches, 250 rounds of training ammunition, clothes suitable for outdoor wear on Saturday (including rain gear) and indoor mat work on Sunday, lawn chair, water, snacks, and eye and ear protection.
