German Volksmarches are traditionally organized, non-competitive walks through fields and forests, typically 5 km long (about 3 miles). The walk concludes with a picnic type atmosphere with drinks and grilled German meats. Often the Volksmarch is a fundraising activity for charity. We hope to continue this tradition at the Shortsville Reindeer Farm. We will also have a shorter course that is less than a mile for anyone who doesn't want to do the entire distance.After finding a parking spot, walk to the barn. At 10am we will begin the walk. The walk starts by going around the outside of the reindeer pasture and then through fields and forests and loops back to the reindeer pasture. At 11am the German Oompah band will begin playing and will play until 2pm. Grilled bratwurst, beer and water will be available for purchase. One free bratwurst is included in the price of admission. There will be a portable toilet on site with a hand washing station. Guests are free to relax in the barn or the lawn until 2pm. Though the reindeer will be visible, guests will not have the ability to interact with the reindeer.
This is a fundraiser for the Red Jacket Community Library.
