Jakarta’s beloved pop sextet White Shoes & The Couples Company (WSATCC) returns to Bangkok for a rare intimate performance at Noise House Lat Phrao. Known for their timeless blend of Indonesian romanticism, vintage pop, cinematic groove, and elegant chamber arrangements, WSATCC has shaped the sound of Southeast Asian indie music for more than two decades.
This special night, titled Voices of the Vintage, brings their warm retro spirit to Bangkok—celebrating melody, nostalgia, and refined pop craftsmanship. Supporting the night are two boundary-pushing Thai acts: Narwhal Narwhal and The Mystery Sound Machine, adding an eclectic local touch to this cross-Asian music meeting.
About White Shoes & The Couples Company
Formed in Jakarta in 2002, WSATCC has grown into one of Indonesia’s most iconic indie bands. Their music, deeply rooted in classic pop traditions, has been celebrated internationally and continues to resonate with new generations of listeners.
In 2023, the band released TOPSTAR COLLECTION with Lamunai Records — a remastered anthology spanning 2005–2013. Featuring 12 curated tracks, the album traces the evolution of WSATCC through its most beloved works, including selections from their self-titled debut (2005), Skenario Masa Muda (2007), Album Vakansi (2010), and Menyanyikan Lagu2 Daerah (2013). The collection marks 21 years of their journey, bringing classic WSATCC songs to digital streaming platforms and a wider audience.
The album artwork — originally a 2006 tour poster — was redesigned by vocalist Aprilia Apsari, with photography by Ary Sendy. Remastering was completed by Reonaldi Jessup.
Band Members
Aprilia Apsari (Sari) – Vocals, Lyricist
Born in Surabaya (1981), Sari is not only the voice of WSATCC but also a multidisciplinary visual artist working across drawing, graphic art, murals, and animation. Active in exhibitions since 2000, including Jakarta Biennale 2015, she continues to explore illustration, video, short stories — and occasionally graces the dance floor as a music selector.
Yusmario Farabi (Rio) – Guitar
Born in Jakarta (1982), Rio is a painter, muralist, and graphic designer. His creative work spans art exhibitions, design for fashion labels, and merchandise projects. He currently works as an Art Director for a national multicorporate company and frequently performs as a music selector at events.
Saleh Husein – Guitar
Born in Jeddah (1982), Saleh is also known for his role in The Adams and numerous experimental music projects. As a visual artist, he has exhibited widely, including the Istanbul Biennale 2022. He currently serves as an Art Director for Synchronize Fest, curates programs at Gudskul, and performs as a music selector.
Ricky Surya Virgana – Bass, Cello
Born in Jakarta (1981), Ricky is a composer, producer, and performer active across film scoring, classical performance, and contemporary music. His film composition work includes Kau, Rabu dan Perkara2 Sepintas Lalu (2022). Ricky also teaches music, plays in orchestras, DJs, and performs as a music selector.
Apri Mela Prawidyanti – Keyboard, Viola
Born in Magelang (1982), Mela performs regularly with classical orchestras and teaches music at an international school. She co-runs the selector unit MMS with Sari (WSATCC) and Mar (Jirapah), and together with her partner, she founded Rogue Records, a vinyl store in Tangerang.
John Navid – Drums, Percussion
Born in Binjai (1981), John is active in classical, contemporary, and experimental performance. His project Mirak Div was featured at Salihara Jazz Buzz 2018. He also teaches percussion and works as a photographer known for capturing humorous slices of urban life.
Manager – Indra Ameng
A long-time program coordinator at ruangrupa since 2001, Indra has curated major art events including TRANSaction: Sonsbeek 2016. He is the Festival Director of RRREC Fest and has managed WSATCC since 2004. Through The Secret Agents, a conceptual art and music duo founded in 2007, he also runs SUPERBAD!, a long-standing indie music night in Jakarta.
