The September Voices of the Village program will continue the fun of the 44th Annual Traditional Music Festival and Bluegrass Concerts with performances by Between the Strings and Me - and - Mackville. The presentation for this month will be about the "other" history of Lincoln's New Salem from 1865 to today. The presentation will discuss the roles that the local community, State of Illinois, and federal government played in the creation of Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site. A fitting presentation for the continuation of the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
Topics that will be discussed include Herndon's research, the Old Salem Chautauqua, the Old Salem Lincoln League, the State of Illinois' Record of Restoration, the CCC, and the fight for authenticity. All of that pieced together will show how Lincoln's New Salem became the historic site that we all know and love today.
The music will start at 1:00PM and the presentation will follow the performances. Entire event takes place in the Lincoln's New Salem Visitor Center Auditorium. Program is FREE and open to all.
