Graeme quickly became a beloved figure among viewers. In early 2010, after founding his band, The Graeme Watkins Project, he landed a role in the popular South African soap opera, Rhythm City.
Since graduating from the University of Cape Town’s Theatre and Performers Department in 2007, Graeme has experienced tremendous success over the past 12 years. YOU WILL LEARN:
1.Mic Techniques
Understanding how to properly use a microphone is crucial for voiceover work. You’ll learn about different types of microphones, their characteristics, and how to select the right one for your voice and the project at hand. Mastering mic placement, handling noise, and using pop filters to prevent plosive sounds will help ensure professional-quality recordings.
2. Vocal Delivery Styles
Voiceover work varies significantly across genres: Commercials, animation, audiobooks, etc. You’ll explore different vocal delivery styles, such as conversational, dramatic, authoritative, and friendly. By experimenting with these styles, you can adapt your voice to fit the emotional tone and context of the script, making you a more versatile voiceover artist.
3. Script Types & Styles
Voiceover scripts come in various forms, from straightforward advertisements to complex character driven narratives. You will learn how to interpret different script types, understanding the nuances of each, and how to modify your delivery to match the intended audience and format, whether it’s a promotional spot or an educational piece.
4. Character Development
Creating unique and believable characters is a significant aspect of voice acting, especially in animation or video games. You’ll learn techniques for developing distinct voices, personalities, and backstories for characters. This involves vocal variation, emotional expression, and physicality, all of which contribute to creating a well-rounded character portrayal.
5. Breath Control & Placement
Proper breath control is essential for maintaining vocal stamina and clarity. You will learn techniques to manage your breathing effectively while delivering long passages without losing breath. Additionally, focusing on breath placement will help you achieve a fuller sound and sustain notes, crucial for various styles of voiceover work.
6. Vocal Graphics
Vocal graphics refer to the use of your voice to create specific sounds and effects that enhance the storytelling. You will explore how to employ pitch, tone, rhythm, and inflection to create texture and imagery with your voice, making the narrative more engaging and vivid for the listener.
7. Client Etiquette & Much More!
Entering the voiceover industry means working with clients, directors, and producers. You will gain insights into professional etiquette, including communication skills, understanding industry standards, and establishing long-lasting relationships. This also covers how to handle feedback, revisions, and the importance of being receptive to direction.
What You Will Receive:
In addition to the invaluable skills and knowledge gained, you will receive two professionally produced voiceover reels. These reels will showcase your versatility and skills—one focusing on a hard sell (energetic and persuasive) and the other on a soft sell (gentler and conversational). These reels are essential tools for obtaining clients or representation from agencies, as they provide a sample of your work that can effectively demonstrate your abilities.
