About this Event
The Voce Books Club returns with another fascinating discussion of a recently published work of fiction in translation.
We’re thrilled to announce that the selection for April is:
A Book, Untitled by Shushan Avagyan
Translated from Eastern Armenian by Deanna Cachoian-Schanz
Published by Tilted Axis.
Piecing together unpublished works, drafts & censored documents, ‘A Book, Untitled’ tells the story of an imagined encounter between Shushanik Kurghinian & Zabel Yesayan, two pioneers of early 20th century feminist literature whose work - largely obscured by the Tsarist & Stalinist regimes - has been forgotten by Armenian history. The fictional meeting between these two writers intertwines with a conversation between two other women - the author & a friend - who are researching the lost legacy of Kurghinian & Yesayan. Reflecting on the nature of authorship, Shushan Avagyan reveals through formally & linguistically experimental prose the importance of remembering two female writers whose work was far too innovative & powerful not to be erased.
Copies of ‘A Book, Untitled’ can be purchased from Voce Books in advance of the event with a Voce Books Club discount of 10%.
Spaces are limited & offered on a first-come-first-served basis, so we kindly ask that you place a reservation for the book club here on our Eventbrite page.
