After an unforgettable edition in 2023, our VOCAL BEING retreat is coming back full power in May, 2024, for a weekend staying in Quinta da Enxara, a beautiful retreat center surrounded by nature in Mafra (40km from Lisbon).
Sofia Ribeiro, Manuel Linhares and Rizumik will bring the best of themselves to facilitate the connection with your voices, bodies and your most genuine selves, in an environment filled with music, creativity, collaboration, movement and improvisation. // GENERAL SCHEDULE //
The retreat will start on Friday evening (24th of May). Participants can check in from 15h on and settle comfortably at Quinta da Enxara. After a welcoming dinner, at 7pm, activities will start.
On Sunday, the 26th of May, activities will finish at 16h, followed by for our farewell coffee break.

If it happens that you have to cancel your registration, you can find someone to take your place so that it can be reattributed. In case you're unable to find someone, part of your payment will be sent back:

50% - more than two weeks before the opening date

// FACILITATORS //
SOFIA RIBEIRO is a Portuguese singer and composer with eleven albums as a leader. She won the first prize at “Voicingers” (Poland) and “Crest Jazz Vocal” (France), and the second prize at “Young Jazz Singers” (Belgium). Her album “Ar” won the revelation prize from the French magazine “Jazzman”. She has a degree in ‘Jazz Performance’ from ESMAE (Portugal) and a master degree from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, and did one-year exchange programs at ESMUC (Barcelona), Berklee College of Music (Boston) and CNSMD (Paris). She completed Rhiannon's ‘All the Way In' improvisation advanced course and was selected to be her assistant in 2017. She was a speaker at TEDx CESA (Colombia) and an artist in residence at the Carnegie Hall, and she has been part of the faculty of the anual Bobby McFerrin’s Circle Songs course for the past years.

RIZUMIK is an award-winning artist, mostly known for his rhythmical and improvisational talents, using mainly beatbox, singing, percussion, dance/movement, humor and character work/physical theatre. He has traveled the world performing and teaching, and has worked with MAYUMANA, CIRQUE DU SOLEIL and THE VOCA PEOPLE (Off-Broadway and international cast) also being faculty at BOBBY McFERRIN’s Circlesong School since 2016. RIZUMIK won “Best Vocal Percussion” at the 2017 Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella competition, is the 2012 American Beatbox Champion and won a Lucille Lortel Award, as well as the 2008 music prize “Jovens Criadores” with his vocal project aCorda. In 2019, he was a speaker at TEDxULisboa, having demonstrated his connection to improvisation, spontaneity and playfulness. Besides performing, RIZUMIK teaches classes and facilitates workshops and retreats connected to vocal improvisation, circle singing, creativity, artistic expression and vulnerability.

MANUEL LINHARES is a Portuguese singer living in Porto. Besides his degree in Vocal Jazz from ESMAE- Porto, he studied in Barcelona at “Tallers de Muzics” and in Berlin at the “Jazz Institute of Berlin”. He worked and learned with great musicians like Bobby Mcferrin, Theo Bleckmann, Judy Niemack, John Hollenbeck, David Linx, Rhiannon, Rebecca Martin, Becca Stevens, Gretchen Parlato, Rui Veloso, José Mário Branco and also with the extraordinary Meredith Monk. He released his debut album in the end of 2013 called “Traces of Cities”, followed by the recent “Boundaries” (2019) and "Suspenso" in 2022. In 2017 he started a vocal lab called “O Círculo da Voz”, which runs every two weeks in Porto and explores the power of the voice, creativity and improvisation. He completed Rhiannon's "All the Way In" improvisation advanced course and, at the present moment he is her assistant in the 2023 edition of "All the Way In".

VOCAL BEING 2023: Retiro de Improvisação Vocal em Portugal, de 24 a 26 de Maio de 2023
Após uma edição inesquecível em 2023, o VOCAL BEING regressa em Maio 2024, para um fim-de-semana preenchido na Quinta da Enxara, um centro de retiros maravilhoso e rodeado de natureza, situado perto de Mafra (a 40km de Lisboa).
Rizumik [Campeão Americano de Beatbox em 2012 e professor no curso anual de Circlesongs do Bobby McFerrin], Sofia Ribeiro [Vencedora de vários prémios internacionais de Jazz Vocal e palestrante TEDx] e Manuel Linhares [Cantor de Jazz e criador do laboratório vocal “O Círculo da Voz”] reúnem-se uma vez mais para um retiro de improvisação - Uma viagem cheia de canções únicas e espontâneas, improvisação vocal, canto em comunidade e pura diversão!
O foco de trabalho será a arte da improvisação através de canto em círculo (circle singing) bem como jogos e exercícios de improvisação vocal. Não é necessário qualquer tipo de expêriencia prévia, basta simplesmente estar disposto e disponível para cantar e partilhar a sua criatividade com o grupo.
Venham explorar o carácter do vosso ser performativo e as possibilidades ilimitadas da conexão humana genuína, com estadia completa, conforto, alimentação vegetariana e acesso aos espaços naturais da Quinta da Enxara.

O retiro começará na 6a feira às 19h, dia 24 de Maio. Os participantes podem chegar e fazer o check-in a partir das 16h, depois do almoço, e instalar-se confortavelmente na Quinta da Enxara. Depois de um jantar de boas vindas, às 19h, começarão as atividades.
No Domingo, dia 26 de Maio, as atividades terminarão por volta das 16h com um lanche de despedida.

SOFIA RIBEIRO, cantora e compositora portuguesa, conta com onze discos lançados em seu nome. Ganhou vários prémios internacionais, tais como, o 1º lugar na “Voicingers” (Polónia) e na “Crest Jazz Vocal” (França), e o 2º lugar na “Young Jazz Singers” (Bélgica). O seu álbum “Ar” ganhou o prémio revelação da revista “Jazzman” (Paris). Tem uma licenciatura em canto jazz da ESMAE (Porto) e um mestrado do Conservatório de Bruxelas. Fez intercâmbios na ESMUC (Barcelona), Berklee College of Music (Boston) e Conservatório Superior de Paris. Estudou improvisação com a Rhiannon, fez o seu curso avançado “All the Way In” e foi sua assistente em 2017. Foi conferencista no TEDx CESA (Colômbia) e artista residente no Carnegie Hall, tendo sido também parte do corpo de ensino no curso anual de Circle Singing do Bobby McFerrin, nos últimos anos.

MANUEL LINHARES é um cantor de Jazz sediado no Porto. Para além da licenciatura em jazz pela ESMAE estudou na “Tallers de Muzics”- Barcelona e no Jazz Institute of Berlin. Trabalhou e estudou com grandes músicos internacionais dos quais se salientam: Bobby McFerrin, Theo Bleckmann, Judy Niemack, John Hollenbeck, David Linx, Rhiannon, Rebecca Martin, Becca Stevens, Gretchen Parlato, Rui Veloso, José Mário Branco e ainda a extraordinária Meredith Monk. Participou em várias edições discográficas e em 2013 lança o seu primeiro álbum de originais com o nome “Traces of Cities” seguido de “Boundaries” em 2019 e "Suspenso" em 2022.
