About this Event

Vizcaya's 2025 Contemporary Arts Program (CAP) presents Headwind, a site-specific outdoor installation by Miami-based artist Susanne Schirato. This immersive artwork features blue-dyed windsocks that shift with the breeze, evoking a school of fish and symbolizing the delicate balance between human activity and the environment. Schirato's first solo exhibition in the United States invites visitors to reflect on climate awareness, ecosystem fragility and the complexities of human behavior.
Set against Vizcaya’s waterfront terrace, Headwind offers a unique opportunity to experience art and nature in harmony. Guests are invited to enjoy light bites and refreshments and meet the artist. Opening remarks by Helena Gomez, Curator, and Susanne Schirato will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Headwind will be on view through May 18, 2026.
This exhibition is part of Vizcaya’s Contemporary Arts Program, supported by The Danielson Foundation, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners, and sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Arts and Culture, the Florida Council on Arts and Culture, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Susanne Schirato (b. 1978, São Paulo, Brazil) is a Miami-based artist whose work navigates the intersection of scientific exploration, subaquatic research and artistic practice. She holds a degree in Visual Arts from the Panamerican School of Art and a postgraduate degree in Contemporary Artistic Practices from the Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado, Brazil.
Her artistic research explores the intersection of art and science, influenced by her experiences diving into flooded caves and springs and participating in underwater research projects. She has also embarked on expeditions to extreme locations, including Antarctica, the Arctic, and various regions of Brazil, all of which impact her artistic work.
Her solo exhibitions include Águas Profundas (2024, Canteiro, São Paulo-SP, Brazil) and Emersão (2025, Neocy Fin Gallery, Chapecó-SC, Brazil). Susanne has also participated in group exhibitions such as Ancestral Lines (2025, Coral Springs Museum, Florida, US), Suspensão (2024, ArteFASAM Gallery, São Paulo-SP, Brazil), the 29º Salão de Artes Plásticas de Praia Grande (2023, Nilton Zanotti Gallery, Praia Grande-SP, Brazil), Entre a Estrela e a Serpente (2022, Leme Gallery, São Paulo-Sp, Brazil), Sol a Sol (2022, ArteFASAM Gallery, São Paulo-SP, Brazil), Curva Ponto (2022, Contemporary Art Museum of Sorocaba-SP, Brazil), Nuances - Mulheres em Camadas (2021, BNP Paribas, São Paulo-SP, Brazil), and the 16º Salão Nacional de Arte Contemporânea de Guarulhos (2020), where she received an Honorable Mention.
