Vittore Carpaccio: curating the forthcoming exhibition in Washington and Venice

Internationally recognized specialist of fifteenth- and sixteenth-century Venetian painting, Peter Humfrey will discuss the upcoming exhibition Vittore Carpaccio: Master Storyteller of Renaissance Venice, opening at the National Gallery, Washington in November 2022 and subsequently at the Doge’s Palace, Venice in March 2023. The exhibition marks the first ever retrospective of Carpaccio’s work outside of Italy, despite his being one of the leading artists of the Venetian Renaissance.

Peter Humfrey is Professor emeritus of art history at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. He has curated numerous exhibitions and published extensively on the art of fifteenth- and sixteenth-century Venice.

Organised by Irene Brooke (The Courtauld).
