Homewise's Livability Speaker Series is a community education program created in 2023 that features local and national speakers helping residents learn how housing markets become unaffordable and ways to manage development patterns to increase affordability, sustainability, and livability. Our 2024 series will be held each month from May-October.


Childcare and interpretation will be provided. When reserving your ticket, please indicate if you need childcare or interpretation. This is a free, ticketed event that we anticipate will sell out, so we encourage you to get your ticket today!

Urban designer, editor, and author Julie Campoli will discuss the impact of density on affordable housing, sustainability, and connectivity. Using real examples from Santa Fe and across the country, Campoli will outline how neighborhoods of similar density can either be loved or hated depending on their design. She will offer key insights and suggestions for building the neighborhoods that will serve Santa Fe best in the future.

 Julie Campoli is an urban designer, editor and author who writes about urban form and the changing landscape. She combines a planner’s perspective with a designer’s sensibility to illustrate the built environment and the processes that shape it, helping people understand how design affects the places they live. For 25 years, her design and consulting work for non-profits, state agencies, and municipalities has helped steer development toward a more compact, walkable pattern. A 2010 Harvard Design School Loeb Fellow, Julie lectures throughout the country on the topics of density, affordable housing, urban design and sustainable transportation. Her books include Above and Beyond: Visualizing Change in Small Towns and Rural Places, Visualizing Density, and Made for Walking.
