Chavenage House is one of Gloucestershire’s hidden jems, its origins lie as far back as the 10th and 11th centuries. It has survived almost unchanged since Elizabethan times and is still in family ownership, two only since dissolution of monasteries. Cromwell stayed here as the then owner was as supporter. With its unchanged nature from the past, the house has frequently been used in films and television, Poldark, Cider with Rosie, Wolf Hall and many many more. Currently they are filming ‘The Rivals’ and maybe when you visit. You will hear about some of them during your visit and maybe spot some locations. I hope you enjoy your time spent in a what is something of a timewarp.
The current family will be your hosts and there will be a talk and guided tour followed by tea and scones.
The House is not open to the general public but does open for private visits. You are asked to make you own way by car or mini-bus and full instructions for access and parking will be sent with your tickets.
Disabled Access.; Chavenage is an Elizabethan building retaining many of its original features (dating from before 1576). As a result, there is unfortunately no wheelchair access, and there are
steps and uneven floors throughout the house.
