Visible Mending is the art of repairing a much-loved item. Rather than try to hide the repair, the darning itself can become a focal point and a thing of beauty. If you like metaphors, it’s also a way of emotional repair: preserving that which has been, and renewing it, accepting that making adaptations in life can also bring about something different, but good. Maria Lee McCollum has led many Wellness workshops for variety of mental health projects.
The workshop will start with a gorgeous 10 minute, BAFTA winning, animated film
Maria will then show you how to creatively patch, darn, embroider and embellish - to mend that which has worn out.
PLEASE BRING AN ITEM THAT YOU WISH TO REPAIR or you can practice your new skills on sample swatches provided.
Coming together, mending, sharing a cuppa are all good for the soul.

About Maria
A maker since being a small child, Maria is a textile artist in her own right with a particular interest in traditional skills in knit, weave and stitch. Over the last 25 years she has trained as a teacher and delivered classes and sessions in college, numerous arts and health community based projects in both Yorkshire and Cornwall and later owned a shop in partnership with her husband selling local crafts, supplies and textile workshops. It is with a sense of humility and honour that she has helped countless people to sew and learn a wide variety of new crafts within their communities. She has recently been delivering workshops around Kerry under the Creative Cahersiveen taster sessions part of the new Arts and Culture initiative in partnership with Kerry County Council. She is a member of the Festival of Wool & Cloth Committee.
