About this Event
There are a million different ways you can customize your clothing to make it more artful, more fun, last longer, repair it, and otherwise reimagine it. In this series, we will be exploring what it means to creatively alter and mend our clothes, and learning about some easy, accessible techniques you can use in a clothes upcycling practice. We will focus on visible mending, surface design techniques and destruction/frankensteining. Bring your own mending pile to work on!
We will also talk about what to look for when you do end up needing to source new clothing to make sure it lasts as long as possible and is as mendable/upcycle-able as possible. Americans throw away an estimated 13 million tons of textiles every year, or 85% of their clothes. Learning how to reimagine your clothes by making them look funky, fun, and fresh makes them last longer!
This class is taught by textile artist and Alchemy staff member .
Class dates: 4 Sundays in January - 1/5, 1/12, 1/19, and 1/26, 5-7pm

Registration: Please register early if you are able, as it helps us to assure that classes meet their minimums in order to run! If you register more than three weeks before this class begins, a 20% early bird discount will automatically be applied to your ticket at checkout.
A Note on Ticket Pricing: We are offering sliding scale tickets in order to keep our classes accessible to as many community members as possible. There are three price tiers. Sustaining tickets help us continue to invest in programming. Full price tickets cover the costs associated with running classes. Accessibility tickets are priced below what it costs for us to run a class. If the cost of a full price ticket is a hardship, we encourage you to purchase a sliding scale ticket. If you can pay the full price or sustaining price, please choose that option so we can keep providing arts programming to the community.
Tuition Assistance: Tuition assistance is available for Alchemy classes and workshops if finances are a barrier. Apply for tuition assistance here.
