In this interactive poetry writing workshop facilitated by writer Willona Sloan, we will create poems that fully celebrate our identities, cultures, talents, and gifts. We will engage in guided writing exercises, using works of poetry and visual art as writing prompts.

ABOUT WILLONA SLOAN:
Willona Sloan is a writer, editor, and literary host from Washington, DC. She facilitates a creative writing series for the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery. Since April 2020, she has led a weekly virtual writing hour for the museum that brings together writers from the US and around the world. She has also led workshops in Iceland and Canada, as well as virtual workshops for adults in Belgium and teen girls in Serbia. She has taught several workshops with the Writer’s Center and served as an instructor for the School of New York Times’ pre-college summer academy. Willona has received two Artist Fellowship awards from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, and two artist residencies at Banff Centre for the Arts in Alberta, Canada. She is an alum of the VONA and Hurston/Wright writing workshops.
