Community and creativity are the balms we need in these times. Ready for some fun and goodness? I'm hosting the "Virtual" Crankie Festival at 4100 N. Charles Street, on Saturday February 8. Of course, the real deal is at the Creative Alliance, but they are (alas) sold out. So, please join me in enjoying the virtual in-person version!
Don't know what a crankie is?
It's an awesome art form--a scrolled hand-cranked illustrated panorama, usually accompanied by storytelling or song. Baltimore is truly home to some of the greatest crankie makers in the world.
- If you can afford it, buy a virtual ticket https://creativealliance.my.salesforce-sites.com/ticket/#/instances/a0FUp000007A2SjMAK
to support the Creative Alliance. If you're struggling and can't afford it, don't let that be a reason not to show up. (Likewise, if you can afford it, consider giving extra support to this amazing arts organization.) Tickets won't be needed at my door.
- I'll serve a vegan meal beforehand. Likely my signature lentil stew and salad with ice tea.
- Politeness request #1: I'm on a detox program, sans sugar or flour. If you bring something, please make sure it is a whole food plant. Have Jerusalem artichoke or organic what-not to add to the fabulous salad? By all means!
- Politeness request #2: Please arrive before the show starts. Please do not arrive at the 10th-floor door even a minute after 7:51pm. (We want to enjoy the crankies, and not be answering the door and seating people after the 8pm show begins).
- Bring a musical instrument for the intermission, if you want.
I look forward to seeing you! I think I can host up to 14 people.
