This program flows from Haydn’s wit and innovation to Griffes’ dreamlike soundscapes, a thrilling world premiere by Ben Webster, and Ravel’s radiant lyricism that showcases the evolution of the string quartet across centuries.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM & MUSICIANS:
Haydn – String Quartet in B Minor, Op. 33 No. 1 – Playful, dramatic, and endlessly inventive, Haydn redefined the string quartet with Op. 33.
Griffes – Two Sketches Based on Native American Themes** – A fusion of mystery and folk-inspired melodies, full of atmospheric beauty.
Ben Webster – World Premiere – A newly commissioned work, expanding the language of the string quartet for today’s audiences.
Ravel – String Quartet in F Major – Sensual, shimmering, and rhythmically rich—one of the most beloved quartets of all time.
