About this Event
Welcome to our standard event & booking format – places are free to reserve but a donation of £5 (or whatever you are comfortable with) on admission is appreciated please – every penny goes to specific items for Harrogate Hospital via the HHCC. Debit & Credit cards are accepted on the evening.
For our regular December event we feature the 6th studio album from American singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Prince. Much championed by our very own Graham Chalmers we continue opening the sphere of our classic album choice.
Released in summer 1984 the heavily synthesised and almost psychedelic sheen took the album down a more “pop” oriented direction than the previous album 1999 two years earlier.
No less than 5 successful singles were released including the title track Purple Rain and the innovative “When Doves Cry” with no bassline.
Following our usual format with a full album and artist insight from Graham, followed by playback in full on one of our event reference systems along with Jim’s amazing slide show. Raffle with Jill & Carol.
As always Starling offer a superb range of Beers etc and food can be bought and sent up to the room during the event if feeling peckish!
Our audio menu features our reference Technics SL1210 with HANA SH moving coil cartridge, beefy Marantz PM7005 and Wharfedale’s new and much acclaimed Linton Heritage speakers.
The fun starts at 7.30pm (ish!) with Graham and Colin followed by album playback PLUS our now famous Vinyl Heaven or Hell feature to round off.
