1) For the Vienna International Betta Show (further: ‚the Show‘) the IBC Show rules, quoted in the IBC Standards (Chapter 2: Entering and hosting an IBC Show) will be applied. Modifications, changes and exceptions for Area 2 (Europe) will be specified in the following rules:
2) A breeder participating at the Show does not have to be an IBC member.
3) Breeders can register only betta they have bred and raised themselves. It is forbidden to show purchased fish or fish owned by other breeders. All breeders, who will present someone else’s fish, will be disqualified.
4) At the Show only Betta Splendens will be judged.
5) The minimum size (only body-length without the fins) of the fish to be judged is:
a) 3,81 cm (1.50 inch) for males
b) 3,17 cm (1.25 inch) for females
Betta not meeting these size criteria will be disqualified from judging.
6) A breeder may register his/her betta in the New Breeder classes, if:
a) the breeder never participated in a Betta Show before
b) the breeder started showing in the New Breeder classes during or after January 2023
c) the breeder did not participate in any Betta Show (whether it is sponsored by IBC or not) for more than 24 months prior to the Show
d) exception is made for breeders that have been showing in New Breeder class before the start of the COVID 19 pandemic, they still have the option to show in New Breeder class.
7) If there is a doubt about meeting the criteria listed under 6) the Club and IBC judges reserve the right to move and judge the fish into the Regular classes. Breeders who meet the criteria for New Breeder classes but decide to exhibit in the Regular classes, lose the privilege to register their Betta in the New Breeder classes in future shows.
8 ) Registration for the Show will be possible from 01.05.2025 until Mo, 30.06.2025 or until the maximum number of available show tanks is reached. Registration is done by completing the online entry form, using this link: [will be proviced soon].
9) The registration fee for IBC members is EUR 5,- EUR per fish. Non members' registration fee is EUR 7,50 per fish.
The fish will not be judged without full payment of the registration fee. The registration fee has to be paid prior to the Show either via PayPal ([email protected]) or in cash during benching the fish.
10) Each breeder may register a maximum of 15 fish for the Show. The show organisation reserves the right to change this number prior to the Show.
11) Pairs registered in the category “E3 - Pairs” count as dual entries, both for the number of entries and the entry fee.
12) Benching of the show fish must be made on Thu, 03.07.2025 between 10:00 and 15:00. All fish delivered in time will be judged, while for too late/later deliveries judging cannot be guaranteed.
13) Fish that will not be delivered or collected personally from the Show, by the breeder or his nominee, will have to be sent by parcel at the exhibitor’s cost. Payment for delivery must be paid prior to sending but at least by Wed, 02.07.2025 otherwise fish will not be sent.
14) The package must be received by representatives of the Club in good time before the Show and have to include the following:
a) Fish in distinctly labeled bags (gender, tail-type, class, order number),
b) Registration fee (if not previously paid),
c) 2 copies of the registration form,
d) Fish bags for the return (also labeled),
e) one unused Heat packs for returning,
f) Postage (if not previously paid) and
g) Return address.
15) The Club agrees to organize a sale of the betta for a commission of 25% of the selling price. The price for the sale has to be set by the breeder (or his representative personally present at the Show) and has to be stated on the registration form.
16) No wild betta will be accepted at this Show.
17) Showing fish at the Show is at the exhibitor’s own risk. The Club will treat delivered fish with the highest care, but it will not take any responsibility in case the fish gets sick nor die prior, during or after the Show neither if the fish gets stolen or lost. In such cases the breeder will be informed immediately.
18) Making photos and recordings of the show fish is only allowed after the judging is completed. At the Club's request, copies have to be submitted to the Club.
19) All the show fish can be taken out of the show tanks only after the official closure of the Show on Saturday, July 5th, 17:00 unless they were sold during the Show or other important reasons justifying it. The prior removal of one or more fish requires a written request in advance as well as the confirmation from the club.
20) By registration for the Show, each breeder agrees to these Show Rules and Conditions and agrees to follow instructions of the organizer (the Club).
