Vicki Swan and Jonny Dyer spend their time divided between many forms of traditional music from early Medieval through to contemporary folk. They are known for revitalising old songs and writing new songs and tunes that sound as though they were always in the tradition. They play for all sorts of traditional dance too from Renaissance bransles through to contemporary ceilidh and contra. This year has been significant for their dance element as Regency Dances have been a big part of this year's celebrations of Jane Austen. Vicki and Jonny have a lot of hats. And indeed, a lot of instruments too. You never quite know what you’ll get - whether there be an ancient horn, a medieval bagpipe or jazz piano. What you do know is that it will all be sewn together with good humour, some interesting history and a lot of chorus opportunities for which harmonies are encouraged. The concert may well have some seasonal bias in it - but rest assured, it’s not time for Christmassiness yet. To open the evening, we will have a set from Wickenwood, folk balladeers base their sound around harmony driven vocals, backed up by guitar, bouzouki and fiddle. Their passion for history and folklore takes them around the country, drawing song writing inspiration from the people, tales and legends of the places they visit.
Doors open at 19:00, music starts at 19:30. Tickets cost £13 if booked online https://www.tickettailor.com/events/elyfolkclub/1877906, or £14 on the door.
