VIBRANT REVERIE: EXPRESSIONS OF COLOR
BY: PRIYA RAMA AND DAVID ELMER (PAINTING AS “MASON MARIA”)
People love to create and share lists of their favorite things such as books, movies,
foods and colors. However, we often have a difficult time explaining why something is
favored more than another. Qualitative statements are used to describe, for example,
why the color blue may be preferred over yellow. Regarding color, there are few, if any,
quantitative measurements that make one color “better” than another. That’s because
we are moved by how color makes us feel. In fact, colors are meant to be felt as much
as they are seen. Color unlocks the door to your own, boundless interpretations with
ample space to roam amongst endless shades, hues, tints and saturations.
With Vibrant Reverie, Rama and Elmer kick that door wide open with works full of
color, lively movement and emotion poured into each original piece. Rama and Elmer
invite you to enter their art with enthusiasm, curiosity and wonder. Step into Vibrant
Reverie and activate your own creative, whimsical imagination!
About Priya Rama:
Priya paints the colors, shapes and textures that she experiences inside her head during her chronic migraine headaches. As an abstract expressionist, her paintings are spontaneous and intuitive, exploring dualities of pain/beauty, emphatic color/delicate brush lines, rich details/quiet resting spots, spontaneity/deliberate placement, translucency/opacity, and contemplation/assertion. Often, she says, completing a painting acts as a release, and reminds her that the mind can do more than just process pain: It can transform pain into beauty.

About David Elmer:
Inspired by local “migraine” artist Priya Rama, David Elmer began painting original abstracts around 2017. Since then, his colorful, whimsical pieces have been featured in small galleries in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. His debut solo exhibit “Enter the Ethereal”, was held November 2019 at the York Street Art Gallery in Newport, KY followed by his 2024 solo exhibit “The Gift of Closed Eyes” held at the Westheimer Gallery in Sharonville, OH. Painting as “Mason Maria”, in honor of his son and daughter, Elmer’s art has been selected for several juried exhibits including the Evendale Fine Arts Exhibit 6 consecutive years. In 2020, Elmer briefly opened a Gallery in Lockland, OH with 4 other local artists, only for COVID to bring it to a close. For the past 4 years, you can find Elmer in Cincinnati’s Mt. Adams neighborhood selling his art during the monthly “Art On The Hill” series. He is a local government administrator by day with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. When he is not painting, Elmer enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and enjoying all the wonderful original art that Cincinnati has to offer.
