About this Event
From grief and healing to love, laughter, and chaos, the '“Made in the (818)” short film showcase takes audiences on a journey across every corner of the human experience and the San Fernando Valley.
In the animated short, (Kylene Wong Harrington), an unlikely bond between a fox demon and a monk leads to the ultimate sacrifice, while (Kathy DiStefano) and (Tony Tacheny) confront the pain of loss head-on—one through a futuristic simulation, the other in the raw reality of family and memory.
Family dynamics take center stage in (Angel Ruvalcaba Jr.), where three Chicano brothers wrestle with their father’s relapse, and in (Andres Felipe Bernal Farias and Maria Gomez), where a shy bartender fumbles toward romance.
Shifting gears, (Priscilla Zanni Bertran) hilariously captures the mayhem of a film set derailed by a global coffee shortage, and (Aaron Wayne Hill) closes the program with tense suspense as a fugitive’s safe hideout is disrupted by an unexpected visitor.
Together, these films balance the serious with the satirical, offering a night of locally produced cinema that is heartfelt, funny, and unforgettable— all “Made in the (818)”.
Note: Films are unrated by the MPAA. Program is current at time of publication and titles may be subject to change.
