Are you interested in marine life, environmental conservation, and the restoration of our local ecosystems? Katie Mastenbrook, Pinellas County Sea Grant Agent is hosting an exciting opportunity to learn about oysters and the Gulf Shellfish Institute’s citizen science program on Vertical Oyster Gardens!
What to Expect:
- Educational Presentation: Learn about oyster ecology, the critical role oysters play in marine ecosystems, and the different oyster restoration methods implemented in the Tampa Bay estuary.
- Demonstrations and Citizen Science Opportunities: Explore how to become a Vertical Oyster Garden citizen science participant. Program participants will learn about VOGs, Brooker Creek’s VOG check-out station, and the many ways to get involved in the program.

** This event is family-friendly but geared for ages 10+.
Important Additional Notes: It takes about 10 minutes to drive from the preserve entrance (Keystone Rd.) to the parking lot, and there is a 3-5 minute walk from the parking lot to the Education Center buildings. This event will be held in the auditorium.
