About this Event
Join the Gulf Shellfish Institute and Pinellas County Florida Sea Grant agent Katie Mastenbrook for this exciting opportunity to prepare materials and assemble vertical oyster gardens (VOGS)! VOGs are recycled oyster shells strung on a wire or rope that can be deployed from a personal pier or seawall. Over time, oyster larvae will settle on the shells and grow into adult oysters.
During this workshop, you can help drill and sort oyster shell, prepare wire for the VOGS, and help us finish assembling 200 VOGS that will be deployed back out in the environment. You also will have the chance to learn more about the Gulf Shellfish Institute’s VOG Citizen Science Program and how these VOGs will be distributed and monitored across the Tampa Bay region.
Come anytime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and stay for as long as you would like!
